What dumpster size do I need?

If you're like most people, you have plenty of questions when it comes to dumpster sizing. Maybe you have a small project, like clearing out an unused room in your house or refinishing the floors in the kitchen or the bathroom. Or maybe you're preparing for a large-scale remodel and want to get rid of all the old cabinetry, countertops, and flooring that you'll be replacing. Either way, understanding what size dumpster will fit your needs can be more confusing than it seems at first glance.

As a general rule, you'll want a dumpster that's roughly twice the size of your project. If you're going to tear up the flooring in your kitchen and replace it without moving appliances or building materials out, for example, you'd need a 20-yarder. If you're adding an addition to your backyard, however, and digging out the entire space from scratch, you'll need a 30- or 40-yarder.
